A safe space
Set up a quiet pen or resting area, a comfortable bed, and an appropriate carrier. Remove cords and small objects, secure exits, and block falls from furniture or stairs.
A CONFIDENT START, TOGETHER
Prepare your home, write down your questions, and build a routine with your breeder and veterinarian before go-home day.
Set up a quiet pen or resting area, a comfortable bed, and an appropriate carrier. Remove cords and small objects, secure exits, and block falls from furniture or stairs.
Ask for the puppy’s current food and exact feeding routine before pickup. Discuss diet changes and the needs of very small puppies with your veterinarian.
Choose your veterinarian before pickup. Confirm the first visit timing in your puppy agreement and share all available records with your clinic.
Plan calm introductions to household members and pets. Supervise children and keep early experiences short, positive, and appropriate for the puppy.
Use a secure carrier and agree on feeding, breaks, and temperature needs for the trip. Keep unfamiliar animals and public ground exposure consistent with your veterinarian’s advice.
Think through work hours, supervision, feeding, potty breaks, and who can help. Very small puppies may need more frequent care than your schedule currently allows.
These are preparation suggestions. Your veterinarian should advise on your individual puppy’s medical care.
